Self-Introduction

1. My name is Hina Patel, I'm 25 and I live on Long Island, NY. I thought I'd share this because my friend made a sculpture of me based on the picture for my birthday and absolutely love it! I currently work as the technology teacher at a private non-profit special needs school specifically designed for working with students with high functioning autism. I live at home with my parents, brother, cousin who is going to Stony Brook, and my silly dog Karma!

2. If I were to write a book about myself I would title it, " Adventures of a Soul Searcher." 

3. JOKE: A Golden Retriever and an Irish Setter were on vacation. The Irish Setter said to the Golden Retriever "I just met two Brazillian dogs!" The Golden Retriever responds, "Whooa...how many is a Brazillian?" :p

4. As I mentioned earlier I am currently a technology teacher. This is my third year teaching (two - as an assistant teacher and this year). And this is my last semester of the program! Looking forward to graduation in May!

5. I learned about teaching language arts in my undergraduate education studies at NYU, and I have learned more about the logistics of it over the past two years of teaching where I was in charge of a leveled literacy group.

6. I am not familiar with the term "new literacies". I don't recall it ever coming up in any professional development experiences or at work, so I'm interested in learning more about it.

7. My concerns for this course are group work/projects, the keystone assignment (always a source of anxiety), and any assignments/lessons that need to be implemented in a classroom since I am the technology teacher and only work in my computer lab.
